Lightning protection device is a type of low voltage high resistance open circuit state and high voltage low resistance short circuit state. However, due to the high and dispersed discharge voltage of MOA, its waveform interception and protection performance are poor. Mainly used for incoming line protection and weak insulation protection of substations and power plants.

Their main function is to ensure that the building is protected from direct lightning strikes, and to release lightning that may hit the building into the ground through lightning rods (strips, nets, wires), down conductors, etc. Internal lightning protection includes measures for lightning induction, line surge, ground potential counterattack, lightning wave invasion, and electromagnetic and electrostatic induction. The basic method is to use equipotential bonding, including direct connection and indirect connection through SPD, to form a conditional equipotential body between the metal body, equipment circuit and the ground, and to discharge the internal facilities induced by lightning strikes and other surges into the ground, thereby protecting personnel and equipment inside the building.
